FAQ
Why Pre-Orders?
- Pre-orders help me understand how many components I need to order and make. I funded the first batch of games myself and so it was limited in how many I could order. With pre-orders, I get a better understanding of how many I can afford to manufacture without over producing too many games. If I have a large amount of pre-orders, I can safely order a larger volume of components.
How long do I have to wait for my game?
- Pre-order batches ship in a couple of months. As I get enough orders or if I haven't ordered a batch in a month, I put in an order for components. The components on order are the two game boards, cards and coins. But raw materials also need to be ordered for me to create the other pieces of the game. Wood for the tokens, greyboard for the player boards and game box, etc. All of these take time to ship to me.
- Each batch will be updated when I know shipping dates and as soon as I know that date. I also will keep you informed of the estimated shipping timeframe. The components being printed has a fluctuating ship date. I can only give an estimate until I know for certain that the components have shipped to me.
Why does it cost so much?
- Because these are being made in small batches and by hand, the cost to produce the game is much higher. The price is set so that I recover the cost of materials and have a small amount to partially fund the next batch. I am not charging any of my labor. This is a passion project. I will make these games as long as I have interest in making them and people willing to buy the game.
- Shipping is the same way. I am not shipping large volumes, so I cannot ask for discounts in volume shipping like other publishers. I am not making any profit from shipping.
What guarantee do I have that I will receive the game?
- I am guaranteeing that you will receive your game. That might not be much, but I have already delivered games to customers and they are happy with their product.
- I can only partially fund a future batch of games with the revenue of a previous batch. The rest is my money I put upfront to fund the next batch of games. I want to make that investment back. The only way to make that investment back is to deliver your game to you. I have skin in this game to make sure its successful for everyone.
- With the second batch of orders being produced, I plan to make some additional copies beyond the number of pre-orders. If you would prefer to wait for a copy to be available, please do not pre-order the game. These copies will go on sale on the website when I have them ready.
- I do not have a timeline as to when I might have additional copies beyond pre-orders. As this is a passion project, I do not plan to keep many copies beyond pre-orders. There is no guarantee you will have the opportunity to purchase a game without a pre-order.
What do you mean by hand-made game?
- I am making this game in my house with the tools and machines that I have.
- I am using a laser cutter to cut out the tokens.
- I built a paint tumbler to paint the tokens the colors I need.
- I am using the laser cutter to engrave the designs onto the tokens.
- I am printing the rule book, player screens, player boards on my printer at home and assembling them by hand.
- I am cutting and printing and assembling the game boxes by hand.
- I am NOT making the game boards, treasure cards, coins, or the treasure chests. These are being printed at a manufacturer in the US.
- The treasure chests are being purchased in bulk through a US reseller. These are the only pieces of the game made outside the US (China). No manufacturer in the US makes anything like these treasure chests.
I am buying the game to support you.
-
If you don't plan on playing the game, don't buy a copy. I appreciate everyone that has supported me in making this game. But if you don't plan on playing the game, don't buy a copy. I am not making any money on this endeavor. I spend about 10 hours manufacturing each game. I am not adding my labor to the cost of the game. I'm working for free. If you buy a game and have no intention of playing it, you're slowly killing me for no growth of joy in this world.
- Instead, tell others about the game. Spread the word about this awesome pirate game that they need to play. Send them the link to the website to buy the game. Buy a copy for someone you know and love that does enjoy playing board games. But its okay that you don't buy a copy for yourself if you don't plan to play the game. I still think you're pretty cool.
- If you are going to play the game, please buy a copy! I want each game I make to be played and enjoyed. You are the reason I am doing this. Please grab a pre-order and I will get you the game to play and share with friends. I am doing this because the game is fun and it brings more joy into the world.
